Plum Orchard

A small community nestled in New Orleans East, Plum Orchard (also referred to as Bonita Park) is a neighborhood uniquely New Orleans. Many of the neighborhood's assets were greatly devastated due to Hurricane Katrina, but the neighborhood repopulation process is well underway, and this catastrophic event created opportunity while uncovering some of Plum Orchard's forgotten assets.

Plum Orchard Real Estate consists primarily of double- and single-family detached ranch style homes. The housing typology of the community reflect the character of Plum Orchard. Houses for sale in Plum Orchard differ from the more traditional New Orleans architechture. It moves away from the pedestrian-friendly front porch to a more suburban front yard and paved driveway. Additionally, much of this area is divided into smaller communities and subdivisions, including Academy Park, Rosemont, Haydel Heights and Werner.

Families dwelling in this classic slice of New Orleans have their pick of charter, public and private schools, including St. Mary's Academy which has been in the Plum Orchard neighborhood since 1965. With prominent universities calling New Orleans home, some of the nation's premier colleges are readily available. Healthcare needs are met through capable medical facilities such as Touro Infirmary and Tulane University Hospital.

Residents seeking excitement are in luck with the endless adventure of downtown New Orleans a few miles away. Whether sharing a pint at a local pub or strolling Pradat, Robert or Werner Playgrounds, it's easy to unwind in Plum Orchard. A down-home community of New Orleans' Ninth Ward--come on over and find out what Plum Orchard is all about!

**Private mortgage insurance is an insurance policy that a residential mortgage lender requires of the borrower if the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio of the home is greater than 80%. Mortgage insurance protects the lender from the risk that the borrower may default on the loan. Federal law requires lenders to notify borrowers when the loan-to-value ratio drops below 80%. Mortgage insurance premiums vary, but generally range from $1,000 to $5,000 a year for an average priced home.
